Lubbock-Cooper saw its first graduating class in 1938, after the communities of Union, New Hope, Woodrow, Barton, and Slide combined their schools to create Cooper Rural High School. Lubbock-Cooper South Elementary opened in 1962 and was the district’s only elementary school for forty years, then in 2002 Lubbock-Cooper North Elementary was opened. In 2011 Laura Welch Bush middle school and Lubbock-Cooper Central Elementary were added to the district, followed by the New Hope Academy alternative high school in 2016 and East Elementary in 2018.

Consistently since the mid-1990s, Lubbock-Cooper ISD has maintained a reputation for being a close-knit, academically-driven, tech school that provides a first-rate education in a friendly, community-oriented atmosphere.
